How an idea can improve you, and improve the world.
I never before realised how much a spark of creativity or an idea could completely change my life. However, while working on the BackEnergy project, I have been working alongside some absolutely fascinating people. The conversations I have had have totally broadened my horizons and given me some indispensable and transformative knowledge. I feel as though I am studying an entirely new subject, tutored by an array of inspiring individuals. I am finding that the more I study, the more that want to know about this as my passion project or bliss.
I understand that my project is taking on a life of its own, and I am fortunate enough to be on this amazing journey where I can constantly expand and improve my understanding of this field. Already I am learning and expanding rapidly. Until recently, I couldn’t have comprehended how to use a 3D printer or a 3D modelling program, let alone make my own prototype with one. But here I am, doing just that. As a result, I am constantly thinking about the BackEnergy project and its future. With each new step I take I am more and more convinced of its potential as a serious source of renewable energy. We are currently preparing the release of the first BackEnergy product, and our team are already considering the next line of subsequent models, this in turn is filling us with huge motivation and drive. However, we understand that our initial product requires 100% of our focus, and therefore all future designs have been kept to simple sketches, but they remain an inspiring projection of our bright future. The production of P1 involves many important stages such as: modelling, engineering electronic components and developing workouts with experienced trainers. However I’m well aware that creating a new project is only half of the job, the second and equally as important part is convincingly and effectively conveying the utility and necessity of P1 to our target market. To achieve this, I must actively engage with a website, social networks, develop an application, speak at summits and interact with agencies. It’s a tall order, but awareness of our looming climate crisis is constantly pushing me forward!
If we don’t start switching to renewable energy sources, not only will our air quality deteriorate, but our fossil fuels will deplete rapidly. With our current rate of consumption it is likely that the world coal supply will be almost completely exhausted by 2088, and oil even sooner. A compelling and worrying fact is that a considerable proportion of this energy is spent charging phones (energy that takes to charge phones every day is equal to energy that one nuclear power produces).
Even more of a concern is the fact that quarter of the world’s energy is being produced renewably. Now please imagine, that if even a small percentage of these phones were charged with energy provided directly from their owners, not only will people become healthier, but our Earth will become cleaner. At the moment, more than 120 million people work outside the gym and burn more than half of the billion calories every single day, and the energy that they are producing is disappearing without a trace. Can we actually use this energy? Can we charge our phones with this energy? In addition, can we fight the climate change with this energy? The perception and sentiment is that we can with BackEnergy.
